About Us

Our History

In 2007, Melake Selam Haddis W / Eyesus, the current vice president, Dr. Aklilu Habte, the current president, Ato Debebe Tegegne, and Ato Gizaw Atlie urged their fellow friends and their own family members to raise money collectively through an appeal to the national conscience of Ethiopians in the Diaspora.

Over a very short period of time, the idea and the mission of YYESF has attracted several concerned citizens in the Diaspora, who through their gifts and goodwill have helped us to keep our students focused on achieving their high school education. To date we have 52 contributing members from several large cities and states within the United States of America.

The main objectives are as follows:

Yetemare Yastemer Ethiopia Scholarship Fund, Inc. is established to aid bright junior high school students who can not afford to continue their high school educations due to economic hardship. Shewa

While the fund is available to all qualified and deserving junior high school students, currently the pilot program is underway in the Northern Shewa region. It is intended to cover a larger geographic area of the country depending on resources, capacity, and participation of all concerned.

Our financial strength and membership support are critical to the gradual expansion of the program in other regions of rural Ethiopia.

At a time when a college degree is what a high school diploma was to the previous generations and the minimum entry-level requirement for almost every well-paying career requires more than high school education, YYESF plays a critical role in enabling one student at a time to attend high school and get the education he/she wants and deserves.
